Db Journey Snow Pro Backpack 25L - Roll-Top Ski Touring Backpack for Committed Days (1.4 kg)
Crampons on, the last pitch to the col, one axe in your hand and the second still clipped into its holder on the pack. With gloves this thick you can work one kind of buckle, a big plastic one, and that is all the Db Journey Snow Pro Backpack 25L asks of you.
Once you are up, the skis stay strapped in their A-frame while the main compartment opens through the back panel. That works because the pack holds its shape: Db builds it around its patented Rib Cage Construction, light ABS ribs that replace traditional padding and keep the structure even half empty, over a moulded EVA back panel that stops the load sagging to the bottom.
Up front, a dedicated avalanche compartment keeps shovel, probe and snow saw away from your layers, with a drainage hole so meltwater does not freeze inside. The shell is 420D ripstop in 100% recycled polyamide, the roll-top stretches or cinches the 25 litres depending on the day, and the whole pack weighs 1.4 kg.
Who is it for?
Ski tourers and splitboarders on full days that ask something: a skin track at first light, a couloir climbed with the skis on your back, an ice axe for the last pitch to the col. If you want one ski touring backpack for the avalanche kit, the tools and a spare layer, without it turning into a sack of loose gear, this is it.
A Roll-Top Ski Touring Backpack You Work With Gloves On
Twenty-five litres is a tight budget for a ski touring backpack. The Snow Pro spends it on the things you handle with gloves on, several times a day, in places where dropping something means watching it slide away.
- ✔️ Back access to the main compartment: reach layers and food without taking the skis or the board off the pack.
- ✔️ Front avalanche compartment: shovel, probe and snow saw in their own space, with a drainage hole against ice build-up.
- ✔️ Two ice axe carries: auto-cinching holders on the front, plus a rope carry that works inside or outside the pack.
- ✔️ Skis or splitboard, three ways: A-frame, diagonal or front carry, on a structured frame that holds even half full.
- ✔️ Roll-top volume: cinch it down for the skin track, open it up to fit a helmet inside or pack for the journey.
- ✔️ Glove-friendly plastic buckles: no fiddly metal hardware, and Db says they are crampon and car-door proof.
Inside, mesh pockets sized for gloved fingers keep the small things from sinking to the bottom, and a quick-access side pocket takes the map or a bar. Db also fitted a shorter back panel than on its earlier snow packs, for a fit that works on more body types, and a detachable hip belt with room for the lift pass and a snack.
Who This Pack Is For
The Snow Pro 25L is for people who earn their turns and would rather carry a little structure than dig through a shapeless bag in the wind.
- You ski tour or splitboard and want the avalanche kit in its own front compartment, never buried under your layers.
- You bootpack couloirs where the skis go on the pack in an A-frame and have to stay put until the top.
- You carry an ice axe for the last pitch to a col, and sometimes a short rope for a glacier approach.
- You shoot on the mountain and like knowing that a Db Ramverk Camera Insert S, sold separately, fits the main body.
- You skin with the helmet in the pack and want a roll-top that opens to swallow it on the climb, then cinches down once it is on your head.
At 1.4 kg empty, it is not the lightest touring pack: the ribs and the moulded back panel cost grams. In exchange, you get a pack that keeps its shape under the skis.
For longer days, a camera kit or winter mountaineering, the Snow Pro Backpack 32L adds seven litres, a detachable goggle pocket and room for the Medium camera insert, sold separately. For off-piste days from the lifts, on skis or a board, the Backcountry Backpack 25L trades the roll-top and the ribs for tuckable straps and a bladder sleeve.
At the col, the axes go back in their holders, the roll-top cinches down, and the pack comes down as tidy as it went up.

FAQ
For a single day, yes. The shovel, probe and snow saw live in the front avalanche compartment, leaving the main body for what Db lists: a stove, a change of clothes, a down jacket. The roll-top opens up when a helmet has to go inside. For a long day with a camera or climbing kit, the Snow Pro 32L is the better size.
Db lists no bladder sleeve or hose port on the Snow Pro, so we don't promise one. If you'd rather drink on the move, the Backcountry Backpack 25L has a bladder sleeve with a hose port.
Yes. The pack takes skis or a board in three positions: A-frame, diagonal or front loaded. Thanks to the structured frame, it carries a splitboard or skis without collapsing, even half full, which is where softer packs usually start to twist on your back.
Because of the structure. The ABS ribs, the moulded EVA back panel and the frame that holds skis without folding all weigh something, and on a long skin track you will feel it against a minimalist pack. Those grams pay you back at every transition: the pack keeps its shape half empty, protects what is inside, and skis or board stay straight to the col.
Db describes the exterior as weather resistant: it shields your gear against light rain and daily wear. Db does not claim it is waterproof, so on a wet day the electronics and the spare down layer go in a dry bag inside. Against snow and light rain, the 420D ripstop shell does the job on its own.
Same family, two jobs. The 25L (1.4 kg, 16 cm deep) is the slim pack for one committed touring day. The Snow Pro 32L (32 L, 1.53 kg) takes the long days: it adds a detachable goggle pocket with lens wipe and takes both the S and M Ramverk camera inserts, sold separately.
Empty it after every outing, including the avalanche compartment, and brush off the snow before it melts in. Wipe the fabric with lukewarm water and a soft cloth, without a washing machine or a tumble dryer. Let it dry open, roll-top unrolled and back panel unzipped, away from a radiator, then check that the buckles are free of grit before you put it away.
