Refugio Daypack 32L: the Patagonia backpack for Fridays, from the office to the weekend train.

The Refugio Daypack 32L is a 32-litre Patagonia backpack, the largest in the series: a roomy, well-organised interior, plenty of pockets, and enough space for all your gear or a weekend's essentials. Friday, 6 pm: the laptop is against your back, a change of clothes in the main compartment, and you head straight for the station. It keeps the padded 15-inch sleeve, the breathable back ready for a hydration reservoir and the two bottle pockets.

What fits inside

32L

A weekend backpack, organised like an office bag.

In the main compartment, two sets of pockets keep the small things in their place. On the front, two large pockets keep the essentials within easy reach.

The "Refugio Fit": a 48 cm (19 in) back length, one size that fits most adults. The 32L is taller than the 26L and 30L (53 cm against 46), not longer in the back. No hip belt: packed for a weekend, all the weight stays on your shoulders.

What are the dimensions and weight of the Refugio 32L?

53 × 30 × 28 cm (height, width, depth) and 856 g empty: 7 cm taller and 5 cm deeper than the Refugio 30L, with the same back length and the same 15-inch sleeve.

Is the Refugio 32L waterproof?

It's water-repellent, not waterproof: the coated, treated fabric makes light rain bead up. For a full day in the rain, take a rain cover.

Does the Refugio 32L fit in the cabin on easyJet, Ryanair or Air France?

Not when full: its 28 cm depth is 3 cm over the cabin bag limit on easyJet (56 × 45 × 25 cm) and Air France (55 × 35 × 25 cm), and 8 cm over Ryanair's (Priority, 55 × 40 × 20 cm). Height and width are fine. Its compression straps pull it in when it isn't full, but no compressed dimensions are published: check your airline before you fly (size limits checked in October 2026).

Is the Refugio 32L comfortable loaded for a weekend?

The volume is there: enough room for a weekend's essentials. But it has no hip belt, and once it's loaded, all the weight stays on your shoulders; to walk for hours with a weekend pack, the Terravia Pack 36L has a hip belt with hip belt pockets.
