Db Journey Ramverk Camera Insert L - The Camera Cube for Cinema Bodies and Pro Kits (1.1 kg)

Six in the morning, the back of a van outside a location. The insert comes out of the backpack by its top handle and the lid comes away: a cinema body in one bay, a second camera in the next, four lenses standing on end beside the flashes. That is the Db Journey Ramverk Camera Insert L, before the first set-up of the day.

What sets it apart is depth: 19 cm, against 13.5 cm for the Medium, on the same 37 x 29 cm footprint. Db sizes it for full-size bodies and mid-size cinema cameras, naming the Canon 1D X and the RED KOMODO. That depth is also why it fits one backpack only, the Ramverk Pro Backpack 32L, the pairing Db recommends to professionals.

Shell and lining are 100% recycled polyester, dope-dyed. The L holds 19 litres and weighs 1.1 kg empty: a structured box with a ridged lid that keeps its shape around the kit. Inside the lid, zipped mesh pockets take cards, cables and drives, and the lid itself comes off entirely when you want every bay open.

Who is it for?

Professionals who own the Ramverk Pro 32L, or are about to, and whose kit has outgrown 13.5 cm of depth. Db's own advice is plain: take the Large if you work for a living and carry "even the bulkiest of housing". Filmmakers with a mid-size cinema camera, photographers with a full-size pro body and a set of fast lenses.

What 19 Centimetres of Depth Change on a Shoot

On a job, the camera cube is the part of the bag you open between every set-up. The L is laid out for those minutes, not for the shelf.

In Db's photos, the L stands its lenses upright, caps facing the lid, where the Medium lays them flat. Out of the backpack, it works as a small case on its own: on a studio shelf, on the back seat, on a hotel floor. Back in the 32L, the backpack's separate 16-inch laptop compartment keeps the edit station travelling with the cameras.

Who the Large Camera Insert Is For

The L is not the default size. It is the camera cube for kits the Medium cannot hold, and for the people who carry them for a living.

  • You shoot video on a mid-size cinema camera, the class of body Db names for this insert, the RED KOMODO.
  • You work with a full-size pro body such as the Canon 1D X, and want it in the insert Db sizes for it.
  • You run two cameras on a job, one for stills and one for video, the way Db packs its own photos.
  • You own the Ramverk Pro 32L, or plan to: it is the only Db backpack the L goes into.
  • You set up on location and want the lenses standing in rows, readable at a glance.

The L asks two things: the 32L, since its 19 cm will not go into the 26L, which is 16 cm deep on the outside, and 1.1 kg before the first lens. If your kit fits the Medium, the Ramverk Camera Insert M is 280 g lighter and also works in the 26L.

One only: the Ramverk Pro Backpack 32L, which Db calls its only backpack that fits the Large insert. It does not go into the Ramverk Pro 26L, which takes the Small and Medium, nor into the Ramverk Pro Sling Bag 24L, which takes only Db's Small insert.

Db sizes it for full-size bodies and mid-size cinema cameras, naming the Canon 1D X and the RED KOMODO. In Db's own photo, it holds a cinema body, a second camera, four lenses standing on end, two flashes and three drives. Your layout depends on how you set the dividers, so check your largest body against the 37 x 29 x 19 cm outside measurements.

If you own the 26L, the choice is made: only the Medium fits. With the 32L, let your biggest body decide. A mirrorless camera and a set of lenses sit well in the Medium, 5.5 cm shallower and 280 g lighter. A full-size pro body, a cinema camera or lenses you want standing upright call for the Large.

Less easy than it should be. The interior is black, and reviewers testing Db's inserts noted that a stray black lens cap disappears against it. The fix is to keep small items out of the bays altogether: cards, batteries and cables belong in the zipped mesh pockets inside the lid, where you can see them.

Db lists cross-body carrying as optional: the insert has external loops on its sides to take a strap, and a top handle, but Db does not list a strap with it. Plan on the handle, and ask us before ordering if a strap is part of how you work.

For this size, Db names one bag, the Ramverk Pro 32L, and that is the only one we can vouch for. For anything else, compare the insert's 37 x 29 x 19 cm with the inside of your bag before ordering, depth first.

Empty it after each job, lift out the dividers and shake out the grit that settles in the corners. Wipe the outside with lukewarm water, a little mild soap and a soft cloth. No washing machine, no tumble dryer. Let it dry fully open, away from direct heat, before the bodies and lenses go back in.
