The main compartment holds the picnic and an extra layer. At the top, a small pocket with a key clip; on the front, bungee lacing holds the jacket you've just taken off.

The back length isn't adjustable: the Terravia Pack comes in S, M and L, and Eiken sells size M. With a shorter or longer back, the hip belt sits below your hips or rides up onto your stomach.

A fixed back, cut in M: measure yours.

Measure your back from your C7 vertebra (the bony bump at the base of your neck) down your spine to the top of your hip bones, and compare with the length shown.

48 × 25 × 17 cm for 471 g, in size M: the smallest and lightest of the Terravia Packs.

Is the Terravia 14L waterproof?

With its rain cover, included and stowed underneath, it handles proper rain. Without it, the coated fabric lets water through in the end; it still isn't waterproof.

Is 14 litres enough for a day?

For a few hours, yes: the picnic, a jacket under the lacing and two bottles. With no frame, it's made to carry light; for a full day with a warm layer, the Terravia 22L adds eight litres, a zipped front pocket and hip belt pockets, for 201 g more.

Can I put a laptop in it?

No: it has no laptop pocket, and the sleeve against your back is made for a hydration reservoir. For the office and the trail, the Refugio Daypack 26L has a 15-inch laptop sleeve.
