Deuter · Freescape Lite 26
Steep couloirs in a day: 26 litres, rope and ice axes outside.
In the couloir, you string kick turns together, rope coiled on top of the pack, ice axes on the sides. The Freescape Lite 26 keeps everything that attaches to the Freescape Tour, but closes with a simple roll-top and opens from the side: 1,000 g, a LiteSnow back panel, and the shovel close at hand in its own pocket.
Ski touring · Splitboarding · Day trips
A technical day, everything strapped outside.

What fits inside
26L
26 litres under a roll-top, and a separate pocket for safety gear.
No lid here: the main compartment closes with a roll-top and also opens from the side, against your back. At the front, the avalanche safety pocket keeps the shovel, probe and first-aid kit separate, and a fleece-lined pocket protects your goggles.
- Shovel, probe and first-aid kit, in the avalanche safety pocket
- Goggles, in their fleece-lined pocket
- Wet gear in its inner pocket, and a hydration reservoir up to 3 L
Through the side
Side access, and a front panel that carries the rope.

The back system
Foam that snow slides off, a hip belt that keeps your gear to hand.
- LiteSnowChannelled and covered in elastane, the back foam doesn't hold snow: your back stays dry, the pack close to your body.
- The hip beltPadded and adjustable, with a gear loop and a sleeve for an ice screw clipper.
- The bucklesThey work with gloves on; the sternum strap buckle opens one-handed.
- SafetySafety whistle and SOS label, with mountain distress signals.
Eiken's take
- Why we chose it
- It's the Freescape you take for the day: you leave behind the lid and the back opening, and keep the avalanche safety pocket, the LiteSnow back panel and every attachment point a mountain route calls for.
- Worth knowing
- 26 litres and a recommended load of 4 to 8 kg: enough for a big day; for hut-to-hut trips, the Tour 32 takes 6 more.
- Who it's for
- If you climb steep couloirs on day trips, on skis or a splitboard, with rope and ice axes in the pack.

Deuter
Augsburg, 1898: mailbags first, then backpacks.
Hans Deuter opens a canvas workshop in Augsburg, Bavaria, and is soon sewing mailbags for the Royal Bavarian Post. In 1938, the first ascent of the Eiger North Face is made with a Deuter pack on the climber's back.
In 1984 came Aircomfort, a tensioned mesh that holds the pack away from your back. The Futura series took it up in 1999, and the Futura Pro carries it today.
Deuter guarantees its packs for 2 years against defects in materials and workmanship, on top of the legal guarantee, then repairs them at a shared cost. For a pack bought from Eiken, the claim goes through us.

Questions
Freescape Lite 26 or Freescape Tour 32?
Same dimensions (64 × 30 × 22 cm), same LiteSnow back panel, same avalanche safety pocket, same attachment points. The Tour adds an adjustable, removable lid above the roll-top and a full opening from the back: 32 litres, 1,130 g, for several days. The Lite closes with the roll-top alone and opens from the side: 26 litres, 1,000 g, for the day.
Freescape Lite 26 or Lite 24 SL?
The same pack, in two fits. The 26 is made for a 44 to 54 cm back (height 170 to 195 cm); the 24 SL, shorter, for a 38 to 48 cm back (158 to 178 cm), with a harness shaped for a woman's body. It takes 2 litres less and weighs 950 g.
What are the dimensions and weight of the Freescape Lite 26?
64 × 30 × 22 cm (height, width, depth, pack full) and 1,000 g empty, for 26 litres. Recommended load: 4 to 8 kg.
How do you carry a rope on the Freescape Lite 26?
A strap on top of the pack holds the coiled rope against the roll-top; the ice axes attach on both sides and the helmet goes in the removable net on the front.
Is the Freescape Lite 26 waterproof?
Its main fabric is water-repellent: water beads up on the surface. That doesn't make it waterproof: in steady rain, water eventually gets through at the seams and zips. Anything that has to stay dry goes in a pouch.
