TORINO: A Leather Glasses Case That Earns Its Marks

You know how it ends. The sunglasses go loose into the daypack, somewhere between the keys and the water bottle, and three weeks later there is a scratch running straight across the left lens. A good pair of lenses ruined by a zipper pull. The TORINO exists for that exact moment: a leather glasses case cut from a single panel of crazy horse leather, folded, stitched by hand along the edges, and closed with a brass snap.

Crazy horse is full grain leather immersed in oil until the fibers are saturated. Rub it with your thumb and the tone shifts. Scuff it against a table edge and the mark sits there for a day, then fades back as the oils move. Every TORINO leaves the workshop in the same coffee brown and no two look alike six months later. The inside is the raw suede reverse of the hide itself: no plastic lining, no foam, just a soft nap that cushions the lenses against whatever else shares the pocket.

At 16 x 7 x 4 cm and 80 grams, it disappears into a jacket. The curved flap wraps the full opening, so dust and grit stay out even when the case rides at the bottom of a bag.

Why it stands out

  • ✔️ Crazy horse leather: oil-immersed full grain that patinas with use; light scuffs fade when you rub them
  • ✔️ Suede-lined by nature: the interior is the soft reverse of the hide itself, so lenses never touch anything abrasive
  • ✔️ Brass snap closure: opens with one hand, holds shut in a packed bag or a car console
  • ✔️ 80 grams: lighter than your phone; you forget it is in the jacket until you need it
  • ✔️ Honest capacity: 16 x 7 x 4 cm takes aviators, wayfarers and most prescription frames
  • ✔️ Hand-stitched edges: contrast thread along raw-cut leather, made to be repaired, not replaced

Who it is for

The TORINO is for the person whose glasses live in motion: tossed on the passenger seat, dropped into the side pocket of a leather duffle on a Friday night train, pulled out at a terrace table on Sunday. It shields lenses from keys, coins and zipper teeth, and it looks better at the airport than any hard plastic clamshell ever will. It pairs naturally with the rest of our vintage leather small goods; the ROME watch case is cut from the same coffee crazy horse hide.

One honest note. This is a soft leather sunglasses case, not a crush-proof shell. It protects against scratches, dust and everyday knocks, but if your bag gets sat on, stacked under books or thrown in a hold, a rigid hardshell case will protect your frames better. And oversized wraparound sport frames may push past the 16 cm opening: measure your glasses first.

It is the cheapest insurance you can buy for a pair of lenses worth ten times its price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which glasses fit in the TORINO leather glasses case?

The case measures 16 x 7 x 4 cm (6.3 x 2.7 x 1.6 inches), which covers most standard frames: aviators, wayfarers, round frames and everyday prescription glasses. Very large wraparound sport frames may not fit; check that your glasses are under 16 cm wide when folded.

Is this a hard case?

No. The TORINO is a soft case made from a single panel of crazy horse leather with a natural suede interior. It protects lenses from scratches, dust and everyday knocks in a bag or pocket, but it is not crush-proof. If your bag is regularly compressed or sat on, choose a rigid case instead.

What is crazy horse leather?

Crazy horse is full grain leather immersed in oil during tanning. The oils saturate the fibers, so the surface changes tone when rubbed or bent and develops a patina unique to how you use it. It is the same leather we use across our vintage bags and accessories.

There are marks on the leather. Is that a defect?

No. Crazy horse leather naturally shows traces, shade variations and scuff marks; that is the character of the material. Most light marks fade when you rub them with your fingers or a soft cloth, as the oils redistribute through the grain.

How do I care for the leather?

Almost nothing is required. Wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth, keep it away from prolonged soaking, and let it dry naturally if it gets wet. Once or twice a year, a small amount of neutral leather balm keeps the oils topped up.

Does the closure hold when the case is in a bag?

Yes. The curved flap covers the full opening and closes with a brass snap, so the case stays shut when it moves around in a duffle, a glovebox or a jacket pocket. It also opens with one hand.

Can I use it as a leather sunglasses case for travel?

That is what it is built for. At 80 grams and 0.4 liters, it adds no weight to your luggage and slips into the end pocket of any of our leather duffle and travel bags. Shipping is free worldwide on Eiken leather goods.
