PALERMO: A Leather Pen Case That Earns Its Marks

A good pen deserves better than the bottom of a bag, where keys chew the lacquer off the cap and the clip snags on everything it touches. The PALERMO fixes that in one motion: slide the pen in, fold the flap, and the brass snap bites shut. From then on your pen rides flat and protected, 16 centimeters of oiled leather between it and the rest of your day.

We cut each PALERMO from crazy horse leather: full grain hide immersed in oils until the color runs deep and uneven, no two panels alike. Scratch it with a thumbnail and the mark shows, rub it and the mark fades back into the surface. That is the whole point of this leather. It does not stay new. It gets better, darkening at the fold and along the edges where your fingers work the snap every day.

At 20 grams you will forget it is in your pocket. At this price, it is the simplest way to put real crazy horse leather on your desk, or in someone else's hands: a leather pen case is the kind of gift that gets used daily and kept for years.

Why it stands out

✔️ Crazy horse leather: full grain hide, oil immersed. Scratches rub out, and the coffee color deepens into a patina that is yours alone.
✔️ Slim profile: 16 x 7 x 1 cm. It slips into a jacket pocket, a bag's front sleeve, or lies flat next to a keyboard without claiming the desk.
✔️ 20 grams: lighter than most pens it carries. You add protection, not weight.
✔️ Brass snap closure: the flap folds over and clicks shut, so nothing slides out when the case travels upside down in a bag.
✔️ Soft suede interior: the raw side of the hide faces inward and cradles nibs, clips and lacquer without scratching them.
✔️ Holds two to three pens: enough for a fountain pen, a ballpoint and a pencil, in a single flat compartment.

Who it is for

The PALERMO is for anyone who carries a pen worth protecting: the fountain pen you refill instead of replace, the brass ballpoint from a trip, the pencil you sketch with on site. It also takes small flat things that hate loose pockets: we have slipped a wristwatch in there for travel and it came out without a mark. Students, architects, notebook people: if you write by hand, this leather pen case will outlast several of the pens inside it.

It is not for the full stationery kit. If you carry ten markers, an eraser and a ruler, this slim sleeve will frustrate you: it takes two or three pens and stops there, and the soft leather has no rigid shell, so it shields against scratches, not against a heavy book crushing a fragile nib. Think of it as a leather pencil case distilled to essentials: buy it for the pens you love, not the pens you stockpile.

It also rarely travels alone. The same hide, the same stitching and the same patina run through our NAPLES leather notebook and the FLORENCE leather portfolio: together they make a desk set that ages as a matching trio.

PALERMO FAQ

How many pens fit in the PALERMO leather pen case?

Two to three standard pens sit comfortably in the single 16 x 7 cm compartment. With one pen the case stays very flat; with three it fills out but the flap still snaps shut.

Will the case scratch my fountain pen?

No. The interior is the raw suede side of the hide, soft and unfinished, so nibs, clips and lacquered barrels slide against fibre rather than a hard surface.

What is crazy horse leather?

Full grain leather immersed in oils and waxes. Every scuff and scratch shows at first, then fades when you rub it with your fingers or a soft cloth. Over months of use the coffee color darkens into a patina unique to your case.

Does a full-size fountain pen fit?

Yes. The case is 16 cm tall, so pens up to roughly 15 cm long fit with the flap closed, which covers almost all fountain pens, ballpoints and pencils. Oversize pens beyond 15 cm will keep the flap from snapping.

How does it close?

A leather flap folds over the opening and locks on a brass snap button. It opens with one hand and holds shut in a bag, even upside down.

Is it a good gift for someone who writes by hand?

It is one of the easiest leather gifts to get right: small, unisex, used daily, and it improves with age. Pair it with the NAPLES leather notebook in the same crazy horse leather for a matching writing set.
