Millet UBIC 20L – The Compact, Versatile Day Backpack for Hiking, Climbing & Short Outings (610 g)
Half-day loop on a forest trail. A climbing approach before the heat sets in. A light afternoon out before the weather closes in. The Millet UBIC 20L is the day pack for shorter mountain outings — same family DNA as the UBIC 25, stripped down to what you actually need when you're moving light and keeping the kit honest.
Its signature feature, shared across the UBIC family: the expandable mesh front compartment. When the pack is full and you need to stash a shed layer, a damp shell or extra kit mid-day, the mesh grows the carry volume without opening the main compartment. It's the detail that makes a 20L pack behave like 22 or 23L on the days you need it.
At 610 g for 20 litres, the construction combines a PA 210D Solution Dye main fabric with Recycled PES 600D reinforcements and a Recycled PES 250D lining (both 1,000 mm waterproof, DWR-treated, PFC-free). At least 33 % recycled content by weight — a real construction, not a travel accessory dressed up as a hiking pack.

What Makes the Real Difference Day to Day
The UBIC 20L isn't trying to be a technical mountain pack. It's trying to be the pack you actually reach for on shorter outings — organized, comfortable and ready — without the weight penalty or the complexity you don't need.
- 🪶 610 g for 20L – light enough to wear all day without noticing it.
- 📂 Expandable mesh front compartment – grow the carry volume on demand (UBIC signature).
- 🎒 Top zip opening – fast access to the main compartment with a clean closure.
- 📄 Document / laptop sleeve – dedicated space in the main compartment.
- 💧 Hydration compatible – bladder sleeve for drinking on the move.
- ♻️ Recycled secondary fabric + lining – PFC-free DWR throughout.
The internal organization is clean and logical: hanging document pocket with a key hook for keys and cards, front zip pocket for fast-access items, a detachable inner zip pocket for valuables, and a side mesh pocket that swallows a bottle or trekking poles. The carry stays deliberately simple — ergonomic shoulder straps, adjustable chest strap, hand support straps and side compression straps — stripped of a hip belt since short outings rarely need one.
Who This Backpack Is For
The UBIC 20L is for people who want a real, lightweight daypack for the kind of outings that don't justify a 25L technical pack — and still refuse to settle for a shapeless everyday bag.
- You hike short days — forest loops, coastal trails, afternoon outings, climbing approaches.
- You carry the basics well — water, layer, snack, phone, keys, not much more.
- You want light without cheap — real construction, real materials, real carry system.
- Sustainability isn't optional — recycled fabrics, PFC-free treatment, made to last.
If you hike full days across seasons or carry extra layers and gear, the UBIC 25L will give you the margin you actually need — plus the integrated rain cover, side ski carry and hip belt. But for shorter outings, climbing approaches and light hiking days where less is more, the UBIC 20L hits the right volume without ever feeling underbuilt.

Millet's Commitments — On Every Product
These three commitments apply to the entire Millet range, not just this pack. They're part of what it means to choose Millet.
- 🧪 Free from controversial chemicals — materials meet strict criteria to exclude substances flagged as harmful to health or the environment.
- 🔬 Lab-tested and validated materials — every fabric is verified in laboratory conditions before it reaches production.
- 🧵 Repairable in Millet's own workshop — when the years catch up with your pack, it can be serviced and repaired instead of replaced.
FAQ
It's a stretch mesh compartment that sits on the front face of the pack and grows the carry volume on demand. When you shed a mid-layer on the climb, stash a damp shell after a shower, or pick up extra kit mid-day, you push it into the mesh compartment instead of opening the main bag. It's the UBIC family's signature feature and changes how you use a 20L pack in real conditions.
For short to half-day hikes and climbing approaches, yes — easily. You'll fit a 1–1.5 L hydration, a light shell, a snack, a small first-aid kit, gloves and essentials. For longer full-day outings where you carry extra layers and a proper lunch, the UBIC 25L gives you real breathing room without much added weight — plus the rain cover, ski carry and hip belt.
Yes. The main compartment has a dedicated document / laptop sleeve — the same space used for a hydration bladder on the trail. It's not a fully padded laptop compartment like an urban backpack, so for regular commuting we recommend adding a padded sleeve for extra protection.
The UBIC 20L keeps the carry deliberately minimalist: ergonomic shoulder straps, adjustable chest strap, hand support straps and side compression straps — no structured hip belt. Short outings and light loads don't need one, and the pack stays lighter and faster without it. For longer days with heavier loads where a hip belt genuinely helps, the UBIC 25L includes one.
Yes — a dedicated hydration sleeve sits inside the main compartment. Ideal for fast outings where you want to drink on the move without stopping to dig out a bottle.
The UBIC 20L uses recycled polyester for both the secondary fabric and the lining (Recycled PES 600D and 250D), bringing total recycled content to at least 33 %. The DWR treatment is PFC-free, avoiding the persistent fluorochemicals found in older water-repellent coatings. It's a lightweight pack made with materials chosen to reduce impact at the source.
Hand wash at a maximum of 40 °C with mild, non-aggressive soap and air dry completely before storing. Brush off trail dirt instead of soaking the pack. Avoid tumble drying, bleach, ironing and dry cleaning — they damage the DWR and shorten the pack's effective life. Re-proof the DWR periodically with a PFC-free spray to keep the water repellency working.
