Deuter · Freescape Tour 30 SL
Several days on skis or splitboard: 30 litres, ice axe on the side.
At the summit, you plant the board in the snow and eye up the line across the way; the pack stays on your back, the ice axe strapped to the side. The Freescape Tour 30 SL carries everything from the Tour 32 over to a 38 to 48 cm back: roll-top under an adjustable lid, full opening from the back, and a LiteSnow back panel that snow won't stick to.

Best for
Ski touring first, from hut to hut.

What fits inside
30L
30 litres, and the whole pack opens from the back.
Under the lid, height-adjustable and removable, a roll-top closes the main compartment. On the back panel side, a U-shaped zip opens the whole pack without unstrapping what's attached to it; at the front, the avalanche safety pocket keeps the shovel and probe separate.
- Shovel and probe at the front, in their own pocket
- A hydration reservoir up to 3 L
- Wet gear, in its own inner pocket
In the field
At the summit, at camp, in the car park before setting off.

A tour of the pack
The Freescape Tour in detail, shown on the 32: the back opening, the hip belt, skis, snowshoes, helmet.
Eiken's take
- Why we chose it
- A proper multi-day ski touring pack on a short back, with nothing taken away from the Tour 32: you open it from the back at the col, raise the lid as the pack fills, and the hip belt holds your glacier gear.
- Worth knowing
- 1,090 g empty: 140 g more than the Freescape Lite 24 SL, the price of the lid and the back opening.
- Who it's for
- Ski tourers, women and men, under 1.78 m who head out for several days, and splitboarders who want the board on their back.

Deuter
Augsburg, 1898: mailbags first, then backpacks.
Hans Deuter opens a canvas workshop in Augsburg, Bavaria, and is soon sewing mailbags for the Royal Bavarian Post. In 1938, the first ascent of the Eiger North Face is made with a Deuter pack on the climber's back.
In 1984 came Aircomfort, a tensioned mesh that holds the pack away from your back. The Futura series took it up in 1999, and the Futura Pro carries it today.
Deuter guarantees its packs for 2 years against defects in materials and workmanship, on top of the legal guarantee, then repairs them at a shared cost. For a pack bought from Eiken, the claim goes through us.

Questions
Freescape Tour 30 SL or Tour 32: what's the difference?
The construction is the same: roll-top under an adjustable, removable lid, back opening, LiteSnow back panel, same attachment points. The 30 SL is 62 cm tall versus 64, takes 2 litres less and weighs 1,090 g versus 1,130 g; above all, it's made for a 38 to 48 cm back (height 158 to 178 cm), the Tour 32 for a 44 to 54 cm back (170 to 195 cm).
What are the dimensions and weight of the Freescape Tour 30 SL?
62 × 30 × 20 cm (height, width, depth, pack full) and 1,090 g empty, for 30 litres. Recommended load: 4 to 8 kg.
Is the Freescape Tour 30 SL big enough for several days of hut-to-hut touring?
That's exactly what it's designed for: 30 litres under the roll-top, a lid you raise as the pack fills, and a recommended load of 4 to 8 kg.
How do you open the Freescape Tour 30 SL without unstrapping the skis?
From the back: a U-shaped zip opens the whole main compartment on the back panel side. Skis, board or crampons stay attached to the pack while you find what you need.
Is the Freescape Tour 30 SL waterproof?
Its main fabric is water-repellent: water beads up on the surface. That doesn't make it waterproof: in steady rain, water eventually gets through at the seams and zips. Anything that has to stay dry goes in a pouch.
