Deuter · Trail 25
From the approach path to the cable without taking the pack off: 25 litres.
The approach path climbs steeply, and the pack stays snug against your back without overheating it: a flexible U-shaped frame holds it, and air passes between the pads of the Airstripes back. At the start of the via ferrata, the lanyard clips onto the shoulder strap. At the break, the wide zipped opening hands you your jacket and picnic in one go.

What fits inside
25L
25 litres for the day, and a zip that runs round the pack.
A jacket, a warm layer, the picnic and the first-aid kit fit inside; the zip that runs round the top opens the pack wide. Inside, keys go in a zipped pocket, and the hydration reservoir, up to 3 litres, in an elastic compartment that also takes a wet piece of clothing.
- The first-aid kit and the picnic
- A jacket and a warm layer
- A hydration reservoir up to 3 L
Outside
An ice axe on each side, a pocket on top, pockets that stretch.

The back system
A ventilated back on a flexible frame, shoulder straps that follow your shoulders.
- AirstripesLittle contact: your back rests only on pads, and wide channels let air through over 80% of its surface.
- The frameU-shaped, flexible, in Delrin: it holds the pack and spreads its weight evenly.
- The shoulder strapsActiveFit, moving, with soft edges; perforated like the hip fins, with loops for carabiners.
- Standard fitA back of 44 to 54 cm, recommended for 170 to 195 cm; for a shorter back, the Trail 23 SL.

In the rain
When the weather turns at the col, the cover goes over the pack.
Not made for rain
No rain protection
In steady rain, water gets in through the seams and zips: anything that mustn't get wet goes in a pouch.
Water-repellent
Water-repellent main fabric
Water beads up on the fabric. In steady rain, it eventually gets through at the seams and zips.
Cover included
A rain cover comes with the pack
The rain cover comes with the Trail 25; it's removable, so it comes off as soon as the sky clears.
This bag
IPX4, once closed
Coated fabric, taped seams
With the roll-top rolled and closed, the contents are protected from rain and splashing water (IPX4 standard). Not from immersion.
Without its cover, it won't get through a day of rain: keep the cover in the pack.

Deuter
Augsburg, 1898: mailbags first, then backpacks.
Hans Deuter opens a canvas workshop in Augsburg, Bavaria, and is soon sewing mailbags for the Royal Bavarian Post. In 1938, the first ascent of the Eiger North Face is made with a Deuter pack on the climber's back.
In 1984 came Aircomfort, a tensioned mesh that holds the pack away from your back. The Futura series took it up in 1999, and the Futura Pro carries it today.
Deuter guarantees its packs for 2 years against defects in materials and workmanship, on top of the legal guarantee, then repairs them at a shared cost. For a pack bought from Eiken, the claim goes through us.
Eiken's take
- Why we chose it
- A no-fuss daypack: 25 litres, a back that breathes, the rain cover included, and a lanyard that clips onto the shoulder strap at the foot of the cable.
- Worth knowing
- Recommended load 4 to 7 kg: beyond that, the Futura Pro 32 and its steel frame carry better.
- Who it's for
- For a day's hiking carrying 4 to 7 kg, when your back gets hot quickly and the route takes in a cable.

Questions
What are the dimensions and weight of the Trail 25?
52 × 28 × 20 cm (height, width, depth, pack full) and 1,020 g, for 25 litres. Recommended load: 4 to 7 kg.
Is the Trail 25 waterproof?
It isn't waterproof, but its rain cover is included: in steady rain, water eventually gets in through a pack's seams and zips, hence the cover. Anything that has to stay dry also goes in a pouch.
Is the Trail 25 the right size for me?
It's recommended for 170 to 195 cm, for a back length of 44 to 54 cm. Below 170 cm, go for the Trail 23 SL: a back of 38 to 48 cm, a harness shaped for a woman's body, the same pockets, 50 g less.
Is the Trail 25 suitable for via ferrata?
For a day that takes in a cable, yes: loops on the shoulder straps keep your lanyard's carabiners within reach, and the pack stays close to your body. It's rated 5 out of 5 for hiking, 2 for climbing and mountaineering.
Where does everything go in the Trail 25?
In the zipped pocket on top, what you need at every break; in the stretch front pocket, a cap or gloves; in the two stretch side pockets, whatever needs to come out fast. Inside, a zipped pocket for keys and an elastic compartment for a hydration reservoir up to 3 litres.
