Gyme Backpack 25L - Ski Touring Pack That Holds Its Line (950 g)

Nobody judges a ski touring pack on the skin track. You judge it three turns into the descent, when the snow has gone heavy and the pack either moves with your shoulders or arrives a half-second after them. The Klättermusen Gyme Backpack 25L is built around that half-second.

The carrying system pulls the load in close to your back. The shoulder straps are S-shaped, so they follow the line of your chest instead of cutting across it, and the hip belt wraps the pelvis rather than clamping it. Twenty-five litres end up riding on your hips, where they belong.

The rest is detail you use with gloves on: a side zipper straight into the main compartment, and the safety gear in its own separate front compartment, away from wet skins and sharp edges. The shell is Retina® Light in Seawastex, fully recycled, rated above 10 000 mm, for 950 g total.

Who is it for?

Ski tourers and ski mountaineers doing full days: a long skin up, a col, a descent that matters. If you carry a shovel, a probe and a pair of skis on your back more than a few times a winter, this is the volume that fits that day.

What Makes the Real Difference on the Descent

A 25-litre pack has no room for features that only look good on a product page. Everything on the Gyme earns its place by doing something while you are moving.

✔️ Close-to-body carrying system: the load sits against your back instead of hanging off it, so the pack follows your shoulders through a turn.

The front bungee takes the shell you peeled off at the col. It is a simple pack, and that is the point: fewer things to fight when your hands are cold.

Who This Pack Is For

The Gyme 25L was designed for people who move uphill under their own power and care how the load behaves on the way back down.

You ski tour and you want your avalanche kit separated from everything else.
You climb in winter and need ice axes carried where you can release them fast.

The honest limit is the recommended load: 10 kg. This is a day pack for technical days, not a hut-to-hut hauler, and if you are packing a sleeping bag you want the Gyme Backpack 35L instead. For a single big day, 25 litres and a belt that actually transfers weight is the right trade.

FAQ

Is 25 litres enough for a full day of ski touring?

Yes, for a single day. Twenty-five litres takes a shovel, probe and airbag-free avalanche kit, skins, a shell layer, food and water, with the safety gear in its own front compartment. The recommended carry weight is 10 kg, which is the real ceiling. For an overnight in a hut, move up to the Gyme 35L.

Can the Gyme 25L carry skis?

Yes. The pack has side straps that double as ski carry and compression straps, so skis go on in an A-frame and the same straps cinch the load down when the skis come off. There are also quick-release toggles for ice axes on the front.

How do I reach my shovel and probe quickly?

The Gyme has a separate safety compartment on the front of the pack. It opens without going through the main bag, so the shovel and probe come out without your spare layers ending up in the snow.

Is the Gyme Backpack 25L waterproof?

The main fabric is rated above 10 000 mm water column with SkylCoat and a TPU coating, and the top lid is seam taped. That handles snow, spindrift and sustained rain on the way down. The pack is not a dry bag: the zips are not welded, so anything that must stay perfectly dry belongs in a liner.

What is the difference between the Gyme 25L and the Gyme 35L?

Same chassis, different volume. The Gyme 25L (950 g) is the day pack. The Gyme 35L (1020 g) adds ten litres and a helmet carry on top that also works as a skin compartment. Both are rated for the same 10 kg load, so the choice is about bulk, not weight.

What is Seawastex and why does it matter?

Seawastex is Klättermusen's 100% post-consumer recycled polyamide, here woven as Retina® Light at 200D and 202 g/m². It is bluesign® approved and GRS certified, and the pack carries no fluorocarbon treatment. Post-consumer means the input is waste that already had a life, not factory offcuts.

How do I clean and maintain the pack?

Empty it, brush off the dry snow and wipe the fabric with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. No machine wash, no tumble dryer, no solvents: they strip the coating. Dry it open and away from direct heat, and rinse the zips with fresh water after a salty or gritty day so they keep running.
