The E-visa: an Essential Permit to Enter Kenya

As of January 1, 2021, all travelers to Kenya are required to obtain an electronic visa or e-visa before arriving in the country. No more visas are issued in the country or at Kenyan representations in other nations. The e-visa is the only permit to enter Kenya. It is valid for 90 days, and concerns :

  • tourist stays,
  • business trips,
  • any stay of 90 days maximum,
  • a transit of 48 hours at most.

All nationalities are eligible for the Kenyan e-visa, except for 43 countries. The process of obtaining the visa has been fully automated since last year. So, if you need a visa for Kenya, you will have to apply online to get it. You can apply directly on the embassy's website by filling out the application form and uploading the required documents (passport, passport photo, airline ticket, etc.)

Alternatively, you can entrust the task to a private agency recognized by the authorities, which will be responsible for putting together your file online and following it until you obtain the document.

The average time to obtain a Kenyan e-visa for an urgent departure is 3 days. Children 16 years of age or younger are exempt from application, and just need to present their identity documents to be allowed to enter Kenya.

Where is the Kenyan Wilderness Area?

The Kenya Wilderness Area is located in the northern part of the country. It consists of over 100,000 hectares of land. You will find the wilderness in the Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves. This is the only large area of land that has remained untouched by man.

The Kenyan wilderness is the last place where you can see the wildebeest migration. It is a truly amazing sight. In order to protect the migration, there is a strict policy prohibiting tourists from entering the wilderness area during the months of July, August and September. This is a good thing if you want to avoid the crowds. You will be able to see this wilderness at its best.

What to do in the Kenyan Wilderness?

The first thing we recommend to do once you arrive in the wilderness of Kenya is to visit the Samburu tribe. This is the tribe that has lived in the northern part of Kenya for centuries. They are semi-nomadic and move from place to place in order to find water and pasture for their animals. Be careful not to interrupt them, as they still live the same way as their ancestors.

The Samburu tribe has preserved the wilderness of Kenya. They have agreed not to build any permanent structures in the area. This is the best place in Kenya to experience the traditional way of life. You will also have the opportunity to see an amazing landscape. You can see Mount Kulal and Mount Marsabit in the distance. You can also see the Ewaso Ng'iro River and its amazing meanders.

Apart from all this, for your stay in Kenya, you can enjoy a peaceful walk in the wilderness. There, you will see animals and plants in their natural habitat. You may even spot some wildebeest. The Ewaso Ng'iro River is a great place to stop and bathe.

For safety reasons, be sure to travel in the Kenyan wilderness with a tour company. Indeed, the region is still closed to the public. It is therefore necessary to take all the necessary precautions.
