Rain, fabric by fabric

Light rain or proper rain: it all comes down to the fabric.

Each bag is sorted by its fabric: ICON, GRID, CURVE and GO are water-resistant, the whole STREAM series is waterproof.

Light rain

Water-resistant fabric

Light rain and road spray run off it; in steady rain, water eventually gets through.

Proper rain

Waterproof fabric

PU-coated recycled polyester and YKK Aquaguard zips: your things stay dry in steady rain.

Heavy shower: add the cover.

On an ICON or GRID backpack, the Sandqvist rain cover, sold separately, goes over the whole bag. It packs into its own pocket: get it out before the shower hits.

Waterproof doesn't mean made to be submerged.

The brand, as Eiken sees it

Bags for the city and for the forest, designed in Stockholm since 2004.

Three childhood friends, Anton, Daniel and Sebastian, founded Sandqvist in Stockholm in 2004: they split their time between the city and the forest, and couldn't find a bag made for both. Every prototype is carried by bike around Stockholm, on the train and along trails before it joins the collection. The fabrics are recycled polyester or nylon, and most of the bags are made in Vietnam.

Sandqvist guarantees its bags for 2 years against manufacturing defects: zips, buckles, seams. For a bag bought from Eiken, the claim goes through us. On top of that comes the 2-year legal guarantee of conformity.

Eiken's take

Why we chose it
On foot with a 16-inch, the Icon Rolltop 16". On the bike in the rain, the Stream Rolltop L. Hands free in town, the GRID Expandable Crossbody.
Worth knowing
The Icon Rolltop and Leather Lid backpacks have leather details; all the others are made without animal-derived materials. Waterproof, at Sandqvist, means against rain, not for a swim.
Who it's for
Anyone who cycles or walks to work with a laptop on their back and wants a clean-looking bag that doesn't look sporty.

Baptiste, Eiken

Questions

Before you choose a Sandqvist bag.

Icon or Stream: which one?

The Icon for the city: water-resistant recycled fabric, leather details, and a laptop that comes out the back without unrolling the top. The Stream for the bike and the rain: the whole series is waterproof, with no leather. In their larger size, both take a 16-inch.

Are Sandqvist bags waterproof?

The Stream series, yes: waterproof in the rain, in PU-coated recycled polyester, with YKK Aquaguard waterproof zips. The Icon, GRID, CURVE and GO are water-resistant: light rain runs off, steady rain eventually gets through. The Sandqvist rain cover, sold separately, covers a backpack on days of heavy showers.

Which Sandqvist bag for a 16-inch laptop?

On your back: the Icon Rolltop 16", the GRID Rolltop 16" and every STREAM except the Rolltop 14". On the shoulder: the GRID Expandable Tote, the CURVE Half Moon, the Stream Messenger and the Stream Weekender; it also fits in the GRID Shopper, without a dedicated pocket.

Are Sandqvist bags worth it?

Every prototype is carried by bike around Stockholm before it joins the collection, the fabrics are recycled and Sandqvist guarantees its bags for 2 years. Our pick: the Icon Rolltop 16" for walking to the office, the Stream Rolltop L for cycling in the rain. Their limit: outside the Stream series, the fabric handles light rain, not steady rain.

Bernt, Ilon, Ruben, Arnold: where did these bags go?

Sandqvist has refreshed and renamed its backpacks. The Icon Rolltop 16" takes over from the Bernt, the Icon Rolltop 14" from the Ilon, the Stream Rolltop L from the Ruben 2.0, and the Stream Slim Rolltop L from the Arnold. The Everyday Rucksack is no longer sold at Eiken.

Are Sandqvist bags vegan?

All of them, except the Icon Rolltop and Leather Lid backpacks, which have leather details. The Stream, GRID, CURVE, GO and the Icon Sacoche are made without animal-derived materials.

What guarantee comes with a Sandqvist bag?

Sandqvist guarantees its bags for 2 years against manufacturing defects (zips, buckles, seams); for a bag bought from Eiken, you write to us and we pass it on. On top of that comes the 2-year legal guarantee of conformity, and you have 30 days to change your mind.
