Island Adventure: A Family-Friendly Guide For What To Do And See In Fiji

 Reading Time:  about

There’s nothing better than heading off on a holiday with the family. Experiencing a new place together, taking in the local sights, sounds and flavours, and having fun is what family holidays are all about.

It’s these moments that you will look back on in years to come and that you will cherish in the future. While going on holidays with the entire family might be a breeze right now, as the kids start to get older, they will likely want to start doing their own thing.

With this in mind, it’s always wise to take all the opportunities that you can to go on holidays together while you can, to bond as a family and make memories that will last a lifetime.

The key to any great holiday is the destination. You need to ensure that you choose a holiday destination that the entire family can enjoy. When you are choosing where to go, you need to ensure that you consider everyone.

Think about the age group of your kids, their interests and what they like to do for fun. However, you also need to ensure that the adults have a good time too so don’t forget to consider your own needs as well.

Choosing a location that caters to families is always the best move as they will often have child-minders that can look after the kids for a few hours one or two evenings during the holiday so you can have some quiet time. They will also have more kid-friendly activities on offer, as well as a host of activities and excursions that the entire family can enjoy.

Let’s take a look at just a few of the reasons that Fiji family holidays check all the boxes when it comes to family travel and exploring some of the things you can see and do in this beautiful archipelago.

Check Out The Wildlife

Fiji is a great place to go to get up close and personal with the local wildlife. Not only will the kids have a great time seeing all the weird and wonderful creatures that call these three-hundred islands home, but the adults are guaranteed to enjoy it too.

There are many different wildlife experiences to be enjoyed throughout the islands. However, one of the best ones for families is, without a doubt, Kula Wildlife Park.

This is an opportunity for you and your kids to hold a snake, or an iguana, see a host of different native birds and get up close and personal with a bunch of other local wildlife in a safe and controlled manner. For the slightly more adventurous, be sure to check out The Krazy Canopy Flyer, the only zip rail in the country, which takes you flying through the treetops.

Take A Jet Boat Ride

For a truly memorable experience in Fiji, make sure to make your way to the Sigatoka River for the jet boat ride of a lifetime. Whether you have been on a jet boat before or this is your very first time, we can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

Not only will you get to experience all of the excitement of the jet boat ride itself but you will travel seventeen kilometres upriver through the Sigatoka Valley, affectionately known as “The Salad Bowl of Fiji” due to the lush landscape here and the incredibly fertile soil.

This high-speed adventure finishes at a local village where you and the family can sample the local cuisine, learn about the local culture and try traditional dancing. Not only is this tour a lot of fun but it is educational and working with fifteen different villages it’s a great way to support the local economy.

Spend Time On A Tropical Island

The movie Castaway, starring Tom Hanks was filmed on a small tropical island in Fiji called Modriki Island, now known simply as Castaway Island. This is the ultimate Robinson Crusoe experience and really is not to be missed.

If you truly want to get away from it all and have that remote tropical island experience, this is the best place to do it. There are only a handful of resorts that have access to the island so you can be sure that you will pretty much have it all to yourself.

Take a tour of the island with your resort, relax on the beach, go snorkeling in the perfectly blue waters or have fun spelling out “Help Me” signs on the beach just like Tom Hanks. The family-friendly resorts on the island also have some great kids' clubs to keep the children entertained if you need a little downtime.

Take the time to consider your interests and look at your options to ensure you and your family make the very most of your next family holiday in Fiji.
