Gyme Backpack 35L - Ski Touring Pack for the Longer Day (1020 g)

There is a point in a ski touring season where the day stops fitting in a daypack. You are still moving under your own power, but now there is a helmet, a rope, a second pair of skins and a night in a hut at the end of it.

The Klättermusen Gyme Backpack 35L answers that day with ten extra litres and the same chassis as its smaller brother: a ventilated system that pulls the load against your back, S-shaped shoulder straps, and a hip belt that wraps rather than pinches.

The one addition you feel immediately is on top, where the helmet carry doubles as a skin compartment. Below it the layout is unchanged and deliberately so, down to the separate front compartment for safety gear. All of it in a fully recycled 10 000 mm shell, for 1020 g.

Who is it for?

Ski tourers running long days and hut traverses, and winter alpinists carrying a helmet and a rack. If your kit list has outgrown 25 litres but you still want a pack that moves like a touring pack, this is the volume.

What the Extra Ten Litres Actually Buy You

Going up a size usually costs you something in how the pack carries. Here it does not, because the harness and belt are the same as the 25L. What changes is where things go.

One honest note on the numbers: the recommended load is still 10 kg, the same as the 25-litre version. The extra ten litres are for bulk, so if your problem is weight rather than volume, the bigger pack will not solve it. For a single technical day, the lighter Gyme Backpack 25L is the sharper tool.

FAQ

What is the difference between the Gyme 35L and the Gyme 25L?

Same carrying system, same fabric, same 10 kg recommended load. The 35L adds ten litres and a helmet carry on top that doubles as a skin compartment, for 70 g more. Choose it when your problem is bulk, not weight. For a single day, the Gyme 25L is lighter and tighter.

How does the helmet carry work?

It sits on top of the pack and holds a ski or climbing helmet on the outside. The same space works as a skin compartment, which is the point: wet skins go in there instead of soaking the layers in your main bag.

Is 35 litres too much for a single day of touring?

For a standard day, yes: 25 litres carries better when it is full. The 35L earns its volume when you add a helmet, a rope, a rack or an overnight in a hut. Side compression straps pull the pack down when it is not full, so it is usable at less than capacity.

Can I carry skis and ice axes on it?

Yes. Side straps take skis in an A-frame and act as compression straps the rest of the time. Ice axes go on quick-release toggles on the front, which release with gloves on.

Is the Gyme Backpack 35L waterproof?

The main fabric is rated above 10 000 mm water column with SkylCoat and a TPU coating, and the top lid is seam taped. That covers snow, spindrift and sustained rain. It is not a dry bag, so anything that must stay perfectly dry belongs in a liner.

What is the pack made of?

Retina® Light woven from Seawastex, a 100% post-consumer recycled polyamide, at 200D and 202 g/m², with SkylCoat and a TPU coating. The fabric is bluesign® approved and GRS certified, and the pack carries no fluorocarbon treatment.

How do I clean and maintain the pack?

Brush off dry snow, then wipe the fabric with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. No machine wash, no tumble dryer, no solvents: they strip the coating. Dry it open and away from direct heat, and empty the skin compartment after every outing so the moisture does not sit against the coating.
