Ydalir Duffelbag 25L - A 30 000 mm Haul Bag You Can Wear (720 g)

Gear bags live a rough life. They ride in the back of vans, sit in wet grass at the foot of a crag, get dragged across gravel and thrown into the hold. The Klättermusen Ydalir Duffelbag 25L is built for exactly that treatment.

The shell is Molle® Maxima, a 900D fabric rated above 30 000 mm water column. That is roughly triple what a good technical backpack fabric offers, and it is why this bag is the one you stop worrying about.

It also carries four ways: two side handles for lifting it out of a car, two haul handles on the gable for passing it up to a belay, and detachable shoulder straps when the walk-in is longer than the car park. A full-length zip means you pack it like a case.

Who is it for?

Climbers, alpinists and anyone moving equipment rather than packing an outfit. If your gear ends up on wet ground more often than on a hotel bed, this is the bag built for that life.

What Makes the Real Difference in the Field

A duffel is a simple object, so the differences are in the few things it does have.

Can the Ydalir be carried as a backpack?

Yes. It comes with detachable shoulder straps, so it goes on your back for an approach or a station transfer and reverts to a plain duffel the rest of the time. It also has two side handles and two haul handles on the ends.

Is the Ydalir Duffelbag waterproof?

The main fabric is rated above 30 000 mm water column with a TPU coating, which is exceptional for a bag in this class and means wet ground and heavy rain are not a problem. The zip is not welded, so it is highly water resistant rather than submersible: for a river crossing, line it.

How much can I actually put in 25 litres?

A climbing rack with a rope, or a weekend's clothing, or a pair of boots with a helmet and layers. The recommended carry weight is 15 kg, which is the constraint you will hit before you run out of space. The volume is also expandable when the trip home is bulkier than the trip out.

Does it have internal pockets?

No. The Ydalir is one large compartment opened by a full-length zip. That is deliberate for a haul bag, but it does mean small items need their own pouch. Klättermusen's Algir, Eldner and Hrid accessories are made to live inside it.

What is Molle® Maxima?

Klättermusen's heaviest fabric family: a 900D, 530 g/m² weave of 100% post-consumer recycled polyester with a TPU coating. It is the material they use where abrasion matters most. The bottom of the bag carries a second Molle® Maxima layer at 355 g/m².

Is it suitable as cabin luggage?

At 44 × 24 × 24 cm it is well inside the common 55 × 40 × 20 cm cabin frame on height and width, but the 24 cm depth exceeds a 20 cm limit when the bag is full. Packed lightly it compresses; packed hard it is a checked or under-seat bag depending on the airline.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Hose or wipe the outside with lukewarm water: the TPU coating takes it without complaint. No machine wash, no tumble dryer, no solvents. Rinse the zip with fresh water after a salty or gritty trip and let the bag dry open before storing it.
