Fjörm Backpack 18L - Fully Taped Summit Pack for Fast Days (448 g)

Most light packs deal with rain by handing you a cover to fish out of a pocket with wet hands. The Klättermusen Fjörm Backpack 18L deals with it in the factory instead: the construction is fully taped, the seams are sealed and the weather stops at the fabric.

That is an unusual thing to find at 448 g, and it changes what you pack. No cover, no dry bag for the mid-layer, no pause on the ridge while the squall goes through.

Access is built for speed: a single-point closure opens the top lid in one pull. The back is where the money went, with 3D mesh on the straps and the back panel and a 4-S sternum strap that spreads tension as you move. Two oversized mesh pockets take the bottle and the gloves without opening the pack at all.

Who is it for?

Fast hikers, summit pushes and alpine approaches where the weather is part of the plan. If you move quickly, carry little and would rather not stop to put on a rain cover, this is the pack that was built for your day.

What Makes the Real Difference in Bad Weather

Eighteen litres does not leave room for anything decorative. Every choice on the Fjörm is about staying dry, staying cool and not stopping.

FAQ

Does the Fjörm 18L need a rain cover?

No. The construction is fully taped and the main fabric is rated above 10 000 mm water column, so the pack is the weather protection. It is not a submersible dry bag, but for rain, sleet and spindrift you do not need to carry a cover.

How much weight can I carry in it?

Klättermusen recommends up to 3 kg. That is a genuine summit-pack figure: water, food, a shell, gloves and a first aid kit. Beyond that the load sits on your shoulders, because there is no hip belt to transfer it. For heavier days, look at the Gilling Backpack 20L.

What is the 4-S sternum strap?

It is Klättermusen's sternum system that distributes tension dynamically rather than anchoring the shoulder straps at one fixed point. In practice the straps keep following your chest as you breathe hard and move, instead of digging in at a single spot.

Is 18 litres enough for a day hike?

For a fast day, yes. Eighteen litres takes water, food, a shell layer, a warm layer and the small safety kit, with the bottle and gloves living in the two external mesh pockets. If your day involves a picnic, a camera and spare boots, it is the wrong size.

How does the pack open?

Two ways. A single-point closure releases the top lid in one pull, and a cinch opening underneath gives faster access when you only need one item. Both work with gloves on.

Will the bottom wear through on rock?

The bottom is reinforced with Hardur®, a 280 g/m² blend of polyamide, polyester and 13% aramid, the same family of fibre used in cut-resistant gear. It is the panel Klättermusen expects to take abuse, and it is rated above 7 000 mm on its own.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Wipe the fabric with lukewarm water and a soft cloth, and rinse mud off the mesh pockets before it dries in. No machine wash, no tumble dryer, no solvents: they attack the coating and the seam tape. Dry it open, away from direct heat.
